Clients and team

MoorNest keeps each client apart. Every client has its own workspace with its own servers, storage, backups and people, and nothing in one workspace can be reached from another. Within a workspace, each person has one of three roles. This page covers workspaces, roles, adding people and the audit log.

Workspaces

  • We create workspaces for you. To add a workspace for a new client, contact us at admin@devsmooth.com.
  • Each workspace has its own accounts. A person who works on several clients has an account in each workspace.
  • Everyone signs in at the same address, https://app.moornest.com/. If your username and password match accounts in several workspaces, MoorNest asks you to choose one, and each asks for its own authenticator code.
  • A browser profile has one workspace open at a time. To switch, sign out and sign in again. To have two open at once, use separate browser profiles.

See Sign in and two-factor.

Add people

Go to Settings > Clients and people. There are two ways to add someone.

Invite someone

  1. Click Invite someone.
  2. Enter their Email, a Username (letters, digits, dots, dashes and underscores, up to 64), and a Role: viewer or operator.
  3. Click Continue and confirm with your password and a fresh code.

They get an email with a link that works once and expires in 24 hours. They choose their own password, and set up an authenticator app when they first sign in. Invitations need working email: see Alerts and status.

Add an account

  1. Click Add account.
  2. Enter a Username, choose a Role (viewer, operator or administrator), and set their password: at least 16 characters.
  3. Confirm with your password and a fresh code.

Share the password with them through a separate, secure channel. They set up an authenticator app at their first sign-in.

Requests to join

If Allow requests to join from the request-access page is ticked under Settings > Email alerts > Change, people can ask for access. Requests appear under Requests to join, where you can click Approve and invite or Reject.

Change someone's access

In People in this workspace, click Change access next to the person. You can change their Role, or set the account to Disabled. Any change signs them out everywhere. Disabling an account keeps its history and does not delete any backups.

Another administrator has to change your own access.

The audit log

Settings > Audit log records every change and every restore, with who did it and when, newest first. Sign-ins are recorded too. Type in the filter box to search by person, action or item. The list shows the latest 100 entries; click Show all to see the rest.

Workspaces with several clients inside

Some workspaces are set up by us with several clients inside one workspace. In that case a client switcher appears at the top of the console, and each person only sees the clients they belong to. Organization administrators see every client.

These workspaces work differently in a few ways:

  • Add server asks which client the server is for. A server, and storage assigned to a client, can never move to another client.
  • Hyper-V backups are not available for clients yet. Back up folders instead.
  • Backup alert email is paused. Problems still show in the console.
  • Only backups that passed their read-back check can be restored, and only to a server at the same client.
  • The audit log is not shown in the console, and lost-authenticator resets are not available yet.
  • People are managed per client under Settings > Clients and people, with New client, Invite someone, Add someone and Edit client.
